The phonics word family is an important step towards blending. These word families provide our emergent readers with a predictable pattern in an otherwise confusing language. These patterns can be recognized by the child thus making the process of blending easier for our readers. These patterns also make the child a quick, smart, and fluent reader.
Today, I will be sharing cut and paste, phonics word family pack with you.
In the above short vowel ‘u’ words worksheet, I have cut the ‘u’ tiles. After that, I let the child identify the pictures. The beginning sounds are given.
The child identifies the picture and then completes the word by pick and pasting the correct family. Depending on the comfort of the child, you can decide the number of tiles the child needs to pick from. When I begin with this pack, I usually keep only two tiles since my main aim is that the child can understand what is expected in the worksheet. As the child grows comfortable, I make it more challenging by having more word families to pick from.
The above homework worksheet is for short vowel ‘a.’ Cut the tiles, identify the pictures, and complete the words.
I have created these fun phonics word family cards activity. This is a wonderful educational resource for teachers and will help them teach word families in a fun way. You can download this free printable for teachers by clicking on the image above.
