A common noun is a word that names a person, place, animal, or thing.
The first ‘proper nouns’ worksheet will explain this better.
Towards the left, we have common nouns and on the right are proper nouns. Day is a common noun but Sunday is a proper noun because it refers to a specific day. Proper nouns always begin with a capital letter.
In the above worksheet, proper nouns are given and children have to name the group they belong to.
Mars, Jupiter, and Earth are planets.
India, Japan, and Turkey are countries.
Write the months of the year in order and also write the number of days each month has. Remember that months are proper nouns and always begin with a capital letter.
In the next ‘proper noun sentences‘ worksheet, cut the word tiles with the common nouns. Read the sentences with the proper nouns. Paste the correct common noun tile to complete the sentence. You can also choose to write the words instead of pasting them.
The last worksheet is a short story about a boy’s birthday. The proper nouns are missing. You can either cut the proper noun tiles and paste them in the correct place to complete the proper noun sentences or you can write the proper nouns.
