In this post, I shall be sharing ee and ea words flashcards with pictures.
Long vowels are used to refer to the vowel sounds whose pronunciation is the same as its letter name. Long vowel sounds are also called ‘alphabet sounds.’
They are called long vowel sounds because we hold them longer than short vowel sounds. But long vowels are not a longer version of short vowels. Long and short vowel sounds are completely different from each other.
Let’s take an example. Hear the sound of the vowel ‘e’ in the word ‘met.’ It is the short vowel sound /e/.
Now hear the sound of ‘ee’ in the word ‘meet.’ It makes the alphabet sound of the alphabet ‘e.’
Both sounds are completely different from each other. If you stretch the ‘e’ in ‘met,’ you do not get the ‘ee’ in ‘meet.’
Hear the sound of ‘ea’ in meat. Meat has the long vowel ‘e’ sound.
I have a detailed pack of practice worksheets for ‘Long vowel e -ee and ea.’ You can download it from my blog.
The long vowel e sound flashcards that I will be sharing in this post can also be used with dyslexic children to practice reading ee and ea words. These flashcards can add fun to your lessons. They can be used for a number of activities. These flashcards can also be used when revisiting the sounds.
So, there are 28 A4 sheets in all. Fourteen sheets are with ee and ea words written in black. The next fourteen sheets have similar pictures and words but I have highlighted the ee and ea in each word so it is easier for kids to read. You can decide which ones to print depending on how comfortable your kids are.
There are 6 cards on each of the 28 A4 sheets. You will need to print these sheets and cut them into cards. Print these picture cards on card stock and laminate them for durability.
Sort the words and write them in the above worksheet.
Please note that sheet number 3-16 has ee and ea words written in black. Sheet number 17-30 has the SAME words where the long vowels ee and ea are highlighted in a different color. So, either print sheet number 3-16 or 17-30.
These special education flashcards for long vowel e words will also enhance your child’s vocabulary. Do use these words in sentences so children can understand the meanings of the words.
